Prior to my daughter, Margot passing away, my wife raised the prospect of donating Margot’s organs. Hearing this initially was a shock for me and my instinct was to recoil; however after a day or so, having considered the situation I’d come round full circle and was completely on the same page. My initial reaction and instinctive response was very different from my more considered decision, having had time to reflect.
The key point I want to highlight is that after having had that conversation, my wife and I both knew & understood one another’s point of view. Having this understanding is extremely helpful to people when they’re suddenly confronted by such an important and sensitive decision, at what is likely to be an extremely difficult and emotional time.
Talk to your loved ones and leave them certain.
During the course of Organ Donation Week 2021 we will be sharing elements of our FREE to access & download ‘Organ module’ from givingtohelpothers.org – these are age appropriate materials for children in Key Stage 2 of primary school (ages 7-11).
Thank you for taking the time.
