Yesterday, Vicki, Charlotte, Durand (aka uncle Pie) & I were invited to Birmingham’s newest restaurant at the Barclaycard Arena for our first Team Margot Foundation fundraiser event since our charity was formed.
It all came about when Simon Wilkinson, CEO of La Tasca contacted me a few weeks ago asking what La Tasca could do to help fundraise & promote Team Margot Foundation. The Paella4Margot idea soon followed: the staff cooked a giant pan of paella and served plates of the authentic Spanish dish for £5 each, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Team Margot Foundation. They sold over 100 portions raising £500 and La Tasca generously doubled this to make a donation of £1,000.
Brilliant !
We were all really touched to be approached by the La Tasca team with this innovative fundraising idea for our new charity, Team Margot Foundation which supports people and projects close to our hearts – more specifically charities and research related to bone marrow / stem cell transplants, such as blood disorders like leukaemia and those caring for child cancer patients.
It was also really lovely to meet so many of you from Team Margot who had travelled from all over the country; given the nature of our volunteer work, we were delighted to finally meet some of you for the first time ! Amongst others who joined us were:
Adam Flood, Team Margot, Evesham – Adam, inspired by Margot and alongside with Alex Hill, organised Coast 2 Coast over the Easter weekend raising over £17,500 for Delete Blood Cancer UK
Rebecca Robertshaw & her mum Sue, Team Margot Taunton
Gav Ingles & Sarah Tranter, Team Margot Wednesbury: Gav runs Wednesbury Athletic, the best football team in the world… Wednesbury Athletic will play the Wolves Legends on 31 May
Sarah Bagnall & Claire Bull, Team Margot Wednesbury – these ladies have organised a family fun day at The Croft in Wednesbury on 23 May
Maria Smith, Team Margot Worcester – Maria has organised donor registration events at Worcester County Council & fundraised for Delete Blood Cancer UK. She is also assisting the family of Raj Bhuller with their registration events in temples and places of worship
It was fitting for our first Team Margot Foundation fundraiser to be held in Birmingham – we have had such tremendous support not just from within Birmingham City but also from people living right across the Midlands, where a lot of our family live and it was lovely to see so many friends turn out to support.
